In 2019, a total of 454 ha were registered in Catalonia (http://www.observatoriforestal.cat/cultiu-plantes-aromatiques-i-medicinals/) for the cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs), mainly parsley as a fresh herb and a variety of herbaceous aromatic species, mainly intended for the production of dry herb.
In order to highlight this sector, the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Group (http://apsb.ctfc.cat) of the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (http://www.ctfc.cat ), with the financing of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Foods of the Government of Catalonia, prepared an up-to-date information’s database of MAPs production in Catalonia, crossing own and public data, and a survey of the identified farmers.
Until now the survey has gathered detailed data on the economic activity of 46 companies in Catalonia, providing exclusive information on the produced species (eg. Lavandula angustifolia) and herbal raw material (eg. Essential oils) and on the manufactured final products (eg. Cosmetics).
This information could be consulted in a public business directory including a searching engine to find specific data: http://directori-pam.ctfc.cat/
